Getting inexpensive web hosting always sounds like a good idea: and generally speaking, it is. There are, however, a few pitfalls to watch out for (and a few companies to steer clear of) when picking your lowcost web hosting provider.
The whole trick to lowcost web hosting is to get more than you pay for. You don't want to purchase a lowcost web hosting account and, while your waiting on the support line to find out why your web site has been down for three days, have your friends say something like "Well you get what you pay for!". In my personal opinion I would consider prices of at least $6-$7 a month sufficient to pay for the level of customer service and technical support you will want from a hosting provider. I would be careful with anything under that. There are also some companies that set their prices for shared web hosting much higher than that. In some cases they make the price more than worth it with extremely good web hosting and customer support. In some cases you'd be better off with the $6 to $7 a month lowcost web hosting providers.
