What in the world is Googletestad???

What is "Googletestad"?

The first thing that strikes me about it is that it's definately not a word! I really couldn't think of a single worthwile sentence that I could piece together in normal conversation that would include the term Googletestad. It simply would not make much sense unless I were discussing the term itself.

From what I gather, there are many opinions of what Googletestad might mean. Apparently the terms foothold on fame began when it was discovered that a search for "googletestad" at google would return a peculiar ad with the title "Congratulations" at Google.com over to the right in the Adwords advertising column.

The text returned as the description for Googletestad is "This is a family safe ad.
All systems are go!" and the link leads to a Google search for "family safe". This would give me the impression that the term Googletestad is part of some kind of test used to check or tune the Adwords advertising system.

I've read other information claiming that Googletestad is a key to attaining incredible search engine rankings whether it be the search term itself or related to some sort of optimization software. I've also read that Googletestad might have been a part of some software that Google used to check rankings for certain websites.

I lean toward the Adwords test theory, however. I can see where Googletestad might have its uses though. It's strange rise to fame means it gets alot of searches on popular search engines. Many sites have purposely optimized for Googletestad apparently to cash in on some of the traffic it might offer. Strangely enough, for the amount of searches it gets, Googletestad offers very light competition where search engine rankings are concerned.
